Our Story
The vision for Access Athletes, LLC was first born when Matthew Allinson was a young teenager. Growing up, Allinson would discuss the latest news from the sports section of The Baltimore Sun regularly with his father and often the conversation would focus on many athletes becoming victims of their own success even though they had a world of opportunity at their fingertips. He had difficulty understanding how so many elite athletes could find themselves in terrible financial, legal, and personal predicaments. Troubled by these stories, he aspired to attend law school so that he could not only assist athletes in avoiding the many pitfalls that come with being in the limelight, but also to empower them to maximize their potential and leverage their celebrity status to effect positive change in their communities.
Determined to reverse this ugly trend by educating athletes, Allinson founded Access Athletes in the summer of 2007 after he graduated from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
In a short time, Allinson has developed Access Athletes into a trusted educational resource utilized by thousands of elite athletes across the world. Since The Real Athlete Blog was launched in March 2008, Access Athletes has published dozens of interviews with blue chip high school recruits, college stars, future hall-of-fame professional athletes, and notable former athletes. Through these interviews, Access Athletes has been able to provide an inside-look at the experiences of an elite athlete from the career development perspective. In addition to these interviews, Access Athletes features articles from an array of qualified sports professionals who regularly share their expertise and advice on a wide range of topics critical to an athlete’s successful development in athletics, business, and life.
Drawing from the strong foundation already in place, Allinson, along with Zach Aaronson and Dr. Tim Thompson, are in the process of creating an educational program for elite athletes, as well as series of informative guides that they hope to make available in the near future.
